Digitek Tablet Recall

Actavis Totowa issued a nationwide recall of all lots of its Digitek Tablet, a heart medication, on April 25, 2008. The manufacturer received several reports of severe illnesses and serious injuries which were consistent with being overly medicated. Problems in manufacturing caused some of the tablets to contain twice the approved level of active ingredient. Digitek, Digoxin Tablets, also known as digitalis is used to treat atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Use of the defectively manufactured Digitek could lead to digitalis toxicity in people suffering from renal failure or dehydration. Outcomes can vary, but some complications are arrhythmias, heart failure or death.

Symptoms of Digitalis Toxicity are:

  • Unusual Vision Changes
  • Confusion or Dizziness
  • Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Loss of Appetite
  • Palpitations or Irregular Heart Beat
  • Changes in Urine Output
  • Swelling
  • Difficulty Breathing
