Yaz and Yasmin Birth Control Injury Claims Being Investigated

The lawyers of Pendley, Baudin and Coffin, L.L.C. are investigating possible injury claims associated with the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin  manufactured by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Bayer previously received warnings from the Food and Drug Administration for advertisements that overstated the benefits of Yaz and which minimized the potential safety risks associated with the drug. Bayer began running a new add in February 2009 to correct the deceptive information. Well over 50 reports of deaths among users of Yaz and Yasmin have been filed with the FDA. Both pills contain ethinyl estradiol and progestin. The progestin in both Yaz and Yasmin is drospirenone which can act as a diuretic causing dehydration and increased potassium levels in the blood. The increased level of potassium, a key control in cardiac rhythm, can cause hyperkalemia and heart rhythm disturbances. This can ultimately result in blood clots, stroke, heart attack, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism and death. The dehydration caused by drospirenone can also cause kidney stones and gallbladder disease. Women with existing liver and kidney problems are at higher risk for serious health problems.
